Jenny Agutter came to fame as
Bobbie in
The Railway Children, the TV series (1967) then film (1970) of the perennial children's book by
E. Nesbit. She played Bobbie's mother in the recent (2000) remake, and is now planning to produce a film about the life of E. Nesbit.
Other notable films of hers have been Walkabout (1971) with David Gulpilil, The Snow Goose (1971) with Richard Harris, Logan's Run (1976), and An American Werewolf in London (1981). She won an Emmy for The Snow Goose.
Jenny Ann Agutter was born in Taunton in Somerset on 20 December 1952 and lived in places like Cyprus and Singapore when young, her father being an army officer. Her first film was West of Sudan in 1964. Her first Hollywood role was in 1971 and her first Shakespearean role was in 1981; she has been prolific in both and also in television.
She's admired as one of the most stunningly perfect English roses, the all-time favourite for many a male of any age, and it seems impossible to imagine that she is approaching 50. She lives in Cornwall with her husband Johan Tham, a hotelier, and their son Jonathan (b. 1990).
