French astronomer. Born 1748, died 1845.

Like his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather before him, Jacques-Dominique Cassini was director of the Paris Observatory, taking over on his father's death in 1784. His time in office was spent trying to carry out a much-needed restoration of the observatory - a plan which was never implemented because of the French Revolution (1789).

He completed his father's projected topographic atlas of France, which was published in 1793.
