Not to mention, paranoia is the unreasoning and unreasonable fear that people are out to get you. If people are, in fact, out to get you, your fear is neither unreasoning nor unreasonable, and you are obviously not paranoid.

If they’re really after you,
it isn’t paranoia. Right?
Folks back in the Cold War were crazy, it’s true,
always looking over their shoulders.

It isn’t paranoia (right?)
if it’s not Russian spies keeping me
always looking over my shoulder,
but my 'friends' laughing behind my back.

If it’s not Russian spies keeping me
searching for deception in every line,
but my 'friends' laughing behind my back,
I’m not crazy. Just cautious. Right?

Searching for deception in every line
it gets depressing. But I’m onto them now.

After all, I’ve been watching out for years.

It gets depressing, but I’m onto them now.
They think I don’t hear them whispering, I know.
After all, I’ve been watching out for years,
but it never changes, so I can’t just be making it up.

They think I don’t hear them whispering, I know.
Obsession without reason is madness, I agree.
But it never changes, so I can’t just be making it up.
I have proof, I swear; they’re all laughing at me!
