Interrupt Controller Unit

Interrupt Controller Unit - a microchip which takes a number of interrupt sources, prioritises them, and sends an interrupt signal to the CPU via the system bus. An IBM compatible PC normally uses an ICU which is compatible with the 8259.

Also known as a PIC.
