Ιαλμενος

With his brother Ascalaphus a son of Ares. Their mother was Astyoche, the daughter of Actor (Table 33). They were kings of Orchomenus in Boeotia. During their reign the Minyans took part in the expedition against Troy with a force numbering thirty ships. After the capture of Troy, Ialmenus sailed not to his own country but to the coast of the Euxine Sea where he founded an Achaean settlement whose inhabitants, at the time of Strabo, still claimed Orchomeus as their mother city. Ialmenus and his brother were also numbered among the Argonauts. Furthermore, the former was one of HELEN's suitors and it was because of their communal oath that he had to take part in the war to win her back.
