International Standards Organisation...ISO-9000-9004 is a set of generic standards that state the neccesity and requirements for an acceptable quality management system
Primarily adopted in Europe, this means of standardisation is often met sceptically by engineers after they realize that the proccess essentially consists of paying the ISO (or an accredited equal) to give you the proper certification.

There is a minor mistake here. Actually, the ISO does not give certifications. The organization simply dictates the standards. The quality certification seals are given by independent auditing organs, such as BVQI.

In Brazil, ISO certifications are also getting increasingly popular among companies.
