Advertising slogan for
Sprite, a
lemon-lime soda. This
catchphrase was featured in
commercials that made it seem as if "
Sprite" meant "
spunk"
(no comment on the taste, I'm sure) or "
energy" or "
spark".
This slogan never parsed correctly on the first pass, because as a geek child I thought of Sprite (no article) as a soft drink and a sprite (with an article) as a block of pixels.
Now that I'm a grown-up geek and have seen GIFs of women doing interesting things with soda bottles, the slogan is still difficult to parse -- but at least now it has a certain offbeat appeal.
