The Television Personalities' psychedelic pop song is quiet and slow paced, and parodies Syd's own own late-Floyd mimimalistic guitar sound.
Some
history
- Released in 1981 on Rough Trade, the 7 inch vinyl (remember those?) bore the catalog
number RT063. The B-Side was Arthur the Gardener.
- In 1990, the single was re-released as a limited edition (of 2000 presses), this time on Overground, as OVER013.
- If you're really lucky, you'll find the the 7" single with 'Magnificent Dreams' on the B-Side.
This was released in 1982 as a 7" by Rough Trade in Japan (RT08).
- Dom Joly, the cheeky prankster, used the song in the first series of his urban-guerrilla-candid camera show, Trigger Happy TV. It was played in the 6th show of the first series, during a sketch starring a Wendy House.
It is included on the wonderful soundtrack to this series, released on Channel 4 Music in the year 2000 (C4M00082).
A funny fact
In 1984, David Gilmour (Barrett's replacement in Pink Floyd) was promoting a solo album. He had heard I Know Where Syd Barrett Lives and liked the track enough to invite the Television Personalities on tour with him. It was a short-lived relationship though. During a gig in London, Dan Treacy (TVP's lead singer) read out Barrett's actual home address on stage. This was not a popular move with Gilmour, who had them dropped from the rest of the tour.
