A gauge measuring the number of hours an airplane engine has been running. The Hobbs meter is driven by oil pressure and runs only when the engine is running. It is widely used to log air time as well as flight time, and is therefore critical for aircraft maintenance. Also used by flying clubs to charge for aircraft rental time.
