Politically correct term for the collection of scriptures canonized by the Jewish communities. Includes the laws (also known as Torah), the histories, the prophets, and some miscellaneous writings. Within Jewish scholarly circles, the technical term for the Hebrew bible is "Tanach." It does not include the Talmud. The term "Old Testament" is frowned upon by most Jewish communities, because of the implied relationship to the Christian New Testament.
