Haryana is a state in northern India. It's name means "abode of Vishnu" from Hari, an alternate name for Vishnu, and ayana, meaning "home."

The state of Haryana was carved out of Punjab in 1966 to give a greater voice to Hindu speakers within the Punjab.

Today, Haryana is one of India's wealthiest states and a hub of industrial activity and information technology.
