An
Aussie band, a "
collaboration" between
Quan Yeomans from
Regurgitator and
Janet English from
Spiderbait. Based in
Brisbane, the couple previously used the moniker "The Shits" but surprisingly enough they changed it before they started actually putting out records.
The first (and probably last, but here's hoping for a comeback) longish player release, Welcome To Happyland, was completed during a convenient time of little activity for both the 'Gurge and the 'Bait. A succint 36 minutes in length, the tracks in order are:
- Chicken
- Hello
- Hunk O' Man
- Don't You Know Who I Am?
- Tale Of Two Sea Monkeys
- Ballad Of Mike Katz
- Life In A Loop
- Softly Contemporary
- Plot Thins
- Theme From Happyland
Happyland gave the couple an opportunity to do what they had become increasingly good at: making music that was like
rock but a lot more fun, like
techno but with melody, using
drum machines,
guitars,
bleeps and samples, anything goes - and with catchy lyrics, to boot. I am positive a large number of the
Triple J generation know all the words to their songs, despite not having voted them into the
Hottest 100 at all.
