A prayer based on greetings, from the angel Gabriel and from Mary's cousin Elizabeth, pregnant with John the Baptist, in chapter one of Luke's Gospel:

"Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death, Amen."

In the Rosary context, one prays five decades (50) in each Mystery, and three in the intro.

A last-second pass thrown high and deep into the enemy backfield, thrown by a desparate quarterback whose team must score or lose. Notionally the quarterback has time to say the entire prayer at left while waiting to see who, if anyone, will catch the pass. For a successful example, see the Immaculate Reception.

In general use, any desperate low-percentage attempt to salvage a losing situation.
