This ice cream has driven men mad.

More specifically, it's Uncle Gaylord's Ginger Honey, from the store near El Camino Bignum in Palo Alto, and it's the ice cream mentioned in the entry under saga, the one that Richard P. Gabriel and the co-creators of Lisp loved to distraction. I've not proven the recipe myself, but it's been attested to by the best ice cream authority I know, who derived the recipe from the Uncle Gaylord's Ice Cream cookbook (the flavor, sadly, wasn't listed in its honey version). Since there is no Uncle Gaylord chain anymore, this is the closest you'll get to the fatal flavor. Enjoy it and taste a bit of computer history. Now if I could only find a lalaberry shake....

Hacker's Delight Ginger Honey Ice Cream

2 cups cream
and 2 1/2 cups milk
or 4 1/2 cups half and half
1 egg
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup honey
1 tbl sherry wine
1 tsp ground ginger
1 1/2 tsps ginger extract

Blend the ingredients in the order listed. Be sure to taste the mix as you blend the honey, and stop adding honey once the mix is sweet enough (ie, when it's sweet but before it aquires a honey flavor).
Freeze in ice cream machine according to manufacturer's directions.
