Originally, the trophy awarded to the amateur rugby champions of Canada, when Lord Earl Grey - the governor-general at the time - first dedicated it, about a century ago. It is now awarded to the champion of the Canadian Football League, the winner of the Grey Cup game. Festivities include a week of parties and a parade in the host city - a much more down-home event than the corporate Mardi Gras of the Super Bowl, though ticket prices have begun to creep toward Super Bowl levels.
