Comic strip character drawn by
Jim Davis (creator of
Garfield) in his younger, starving days. Gnorm was the central character in a strip about the lives of bugs.
Gnorm ran in the Pendleton Times, an Indiana weekly newspaper, for five long years. Davis tried to get the strip syndicated but found no takers; the rejection letter he loves to quote said, "Who can relate to a bug?" Obviously, this was before Pixar came along.
Davis ended the strip by having a giant foot fall from the sky, crushing Gnorm. The end. Not one reader sent Davis a note of sorrow for Gnorm's passing.
Shortly thereafter, Davis started Garfield, at which point this little comedy turns into tragedy.
