b. September 1, 1957 in Havana, Cuba

Elain-loving power ballad queen and unofficial mayor of Miami who insists on punishing Spanish and English speaking music lovers alike with her worn out ballads about love and overcoming tragedy.

Began the widespread torment in 1985 with a ditty called "Conga"--the infectious predecessor to Hanson's "Umm-bop."

After her band The Miami Sound Machine started making money, she and her hubby decided to change the name to "Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine." In 1990, some members of her band were killed in a mysterious bus accident and when Gloria re-emerged with a new album, the "Sound Machine" dropped off completely. Interesting.

While on her speed boat in Miami, she "accidentally" ran over a water skier, he was decapitated.

I'm sure she's done stuff since then but it's not really that interesting.
