British composer, mid 20th c.

He wrote beautiful, contrapuntally satisfying chamber, choral, and symphonic music. While he is best known for his voice-and-piano settings of the poems of Thomas Hardy, Finzi's instrumental music is just as beautiful, many times in the same pastoral English way that the music of Ralph Vaughan Williams satisfies.

His best-known choral works are his Seven Partsongs on poems of Robert Bridges. This set includes My Spirit Sang All Day.

A wonderful composer, not nearly well-enough known.
