George S. Lensing, Jr. is an English professor at
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his B.A. from University of Notre Dame in 1962 and his
Ph. D. from Lousiana State University in 1966.
He was the organizer of The Elizabeth Bishop Conference:
"An international celebration of the art of Elizabeth Bishop, jointly sponsored by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Belo Horizonte, and the Universidade de Ouro Preto (UFOP) will take place May 19-21, 1999, in Ouro Preto, the picturesque colonial capital where Bishop lived and worked in the 1960s."
