1681-1767 German composer of Baroque Music

A musical prodigy; he learned to play the violin, zither, flute and keyboard by the time he was 10 years old. He attended Leipzig University in 1701. He was very prolific, skillful, and forward-thinking; one of the foremost of his day, who wrote a great many sacred and secular vocal works as well as orchestral, chamber, and keyboard music. Wrote many concertos, sonatas and music for quartets. Contemporary of Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel. Baroque Music
