Their arms extend to Their knees. Their complexion is like molten gold and They are the two Fathers of the sankirtana movement. They are the incarnations of mercy in this world. They are the maintainers of the universe and They are the best of the brahmanas. They maintain the yuga-dharma in this age.

In the Vedic literatures, Srila Vyasadeva describes the various incarnations of the Lord very scientifically. This information is particularly provided in the crest jewel of all Vedic texts, The Srimad Bhagavatam. Amongst such incarnations, the most merciful is that of Lord Chaitanya (Gaura) and Lord Nityananda (Nitai). These two personalities who appeared about 500 years ago in Bengal, are described as the direct incarnations of Lord Krishna and Lord Balarama in the confidential portions of the Vedas and They appeared to teach the fallen people of Kali-yuga (the present degraded age of quarrel and hypocrisy) the topmost love of Godhead by propagating the religious perfectional process for the age, namely the congregational chanting of the Lord's Holy Names (Hari Nama Sankirtana) in the form of the 16 words of the Hare Krishna Maha mantra, i.e.:-

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
The principle feature of Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai, in the Deity form of acra-vigraha is that they do not consider the faults of the worshipper but very liberally give away the most precious gift of all, Krishna Prema or love of God. For this reason they are known as Maha-vadanya Avatar or the most merciful incarnations. Worshipping Them ensures that even the most fallen person obtains the mercy of Lord Krishna.
