Frederick W. Schneider III was born on July 1st, 1954 and is best known
for his contribution to
The B-52's, and particularly his track
Rock Lobster. His vocal style is absolutely
unmistakable,
being a combination of
bad singing, and just plain
shouting. His instrumental credits include
Walkie-Talkie,
Toy Piano and
Keyboard Bass.
In addition to his work with the B-52s, he recorded a solo album in 1996,
titled
Just Fred (CD: 770 04 91 WEA), with
Deadly Cupcake,
Six Finger Satellite
and
Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet.
Fred is a
pacifist and has been involved with
PETA, voicing a
radio
commercial in 2000
boycotting the
Maine Lobster Festival. He says:
"I've always sung the praises of lobsters, and it really burns my
butt when people drop 'em in a pot of boiling water. So take off those
bibs and skip the Lobster Festival."
Before he found his fame, he was a female
mud wrestling referee
and a
waiter.
