Reverend Francis Henry (1756-1829) was the eighth and last earl of Bridgewater. He was also a naturalist and a Fellow at All Souls College, Oxford, before he became earl in 1823. On his death, he left a fund to be used for the publication of the Bridgewater Treatises, essay discussions of the moral implications of scientific research and discoveries.
