One of the many scientific constellations named by Abbe Nicolas Louis de Lacaille, depicting a chemical furnace, and is described as 'an undistinguishable constellation in an unremarkable area of sky' by the Stars and Planets Eyewitness Guide. It is positioned by the banks of the river constellation Eridanus, opposite Cetus the Sea Monster, (both of which are far more interesting!) and can be viewed best in the Southern Hemisphere.
