Florestan is the male lead character in the only Beethoven opera Fidelio, which was originally titled Leonora. Leonora disguises herself as a boy (!) to get into a prison to rescue her husband. Rewritten about a zillion times over a decade, the opera is seldom heard but the three (different) Leonora overtures are.
