She traced the edge of the fingernail moon against the windowpane
imagined sitting on it, like the waif in the painting.

Below that edge of sharp light was a single teardrop
cool Venus blinking on and off
a clear blue warning light

All of this, on the edge of her vision
high above the horizon, past rooftops and power lines
only slightly higher than her fingertips.
