Also known as Discovery Mode, a game option for Nethack newbies (and veterans seeking reprieve) which makes the game immensely easier. It may be enabled with the X command during the game or by starting a new game with -X on the command line. While in this mode, the player may evade the ignominy of his or her character's YASD by answering "n" to the "Die? (y/n)" prompt, thus restoring the character to full health. In addition, if the game is started with the -X switch, the character starts with a fully charged Wand of Wishing in its inventory, giving a chance to jump-start the character's powers.
