A strategically planned Boston holiday occurring on the 17th of March to coincide with St. Patrick's Day. It is only officially celebrated in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, where city and state government workers get a paid day off. "Evacuation Day" refers that it is the date on which the British Troops were evacuated from the city in 1776, during the Revolutionary War; the actual reason for the renaming stems from the city's Roman Catholic / Protestant rivalry. The South End is host to one the largest St. Patrick's Day celebrations in the country, complete with parade and consumption of corned beef.
