Etelä-Suomen lääni, the Province of Southern Finland, (formerly called the Province of Uusimaa) was founded on October 1, 1997. It was formed from the earlier provinces of Uusimaa, Kymi and the southern part of the Häme province. Some parts of the late province of Mikkeli were also joined to the new province. The administrative centre of the province is Hämeenlinna.
Province of Southern Finland is the most populated district in Finland with 2 081 507 inhabitants in December 31, 2000. The overall area is 34 378 km2, 10.6% of that of the whole country.
I live in Helsinki which is located in the southern part of the Province of Southern Finland, on the coast of the Baltic Sea. My place is in the nice (?) suburb called Maunula, if you happen to be around, give me a call so we can arrange a E2-minimeeting in the local pub. =)
