Of course, these indulgences are a far cry from the indulgences for which the Church was (rightly) criticized in the Middle Ages. Note Norm 22, which clearly states that one must be in the state of grace to gain an indulgence. What does that mean? It means that, rather than just giving the Church money to make your sins go away, you must have confessed your sins and been absolved. I just wanted to point that out because of the decidedly negative connotation attached to the word "indulgence" in this context.
