An American actor. Most famous for his role as Rochester on The
Jack Benny Program (hence the permanent nickname), in which he played the
smarter-than-the-boss valet. A role born out of racism, perhaps, but 180°
from Stepin Fetchit: in many ways, he was the boss - a
to-die-for role compared to the options then (or now) available to black
