American gossip columnist and variety show host; his on-camera mannerisms and his "talent for being untalented" made him fodder for the impressionists of his era. The show ran from 1948-1971 on CBS, Sundays at 8 PM (Eastern) and was as important a venue as Johnny Carson's stage. Sullivan was also one of the people behind the blacklisting of performers, writers, directors, and producers during the "Red Scare" of the 1950's. Introduced The Beatles to the US, early '64.
