Dubnium is a synthetic element that is not present in the environment. Isolation of an observable quantity of dubnium has never been achieved, and thus dubnium has no known uses. The reactivity of dubnium is unknown, but is assumed to be similar to tantalum and niobium.

Dubnium was first created in 1967 (or maybe 1968) by the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research at Dubna, USSR, via
Neon(22) + Americium(243) = Dubnium(261) + 4 neutrons.

Created by the University of California, Berkeley, USA, in 1970 via
Nitrogen(15) + Californium(249) = Dubnium(261) + 3 neutrons.
Nitrogen(16) + Berkelium(249) = Dubnium(261) + 4 neutrons.

Element 105 was officially named dubnium in 1997.
