From the Glossary of The Wheel of Time

A stylized mark, usually black, in the shape of a teardrop balanced on it's point. Scrawled on the door of a house, it is an accusation of evil against the people inside. It's opposite number is the Flame of Tar Valon. When the two are combined, they form the ancient symbol of the Aes Sedai.
