These sandals originally came out in the 70's. They were like the poor man's Birkenstock. They had a wooden platform that was molded with arch support, and a simple leather piece that came over the toes, it could be sized with a buckle. They were really heavy, and made a lot of noise.

They became really popular again in the mid-90's, so popular Dr. Scholl's made orthopedic satin maryjanes.
