Rock musician from Beaver, Pennsylvania (born Dominic Ierace). Best known in and around Pittsburgh, where he still commands a cult following. In the 1970s, he played with the band The Jaggerz, best known for their song The Rapper and for touring with Wild Cherry. From 1980 through 1984, as Donnie Iris and the Cruisers, Iris released five albums: Back On The Streets, King Cool, The High And The Mighty, Fortune 410, and No Muss... No Fuss (the first two are available on CD thanks to Razor & Tie. The '90s saw Out Of The Blue, Footsoldier In The Moonlight, Poletown, Live! At Nick's Fat City, and Together Alone. Iris is probably best known for his songs Ah! Leah!, King Cool, and I Can't Hear You. You'll have a hard time finding most of his albums on CD, but a vinyl copy that hasn't been worn out can probably fetch you a few dollars in Pittsburgh.

Iris's signature look is curly black hair, Buddy Holly glasses, and (usually) a banana-yellow suit. He's often referred to as "the guy who made Buddy Holly glasses cool".

In October of 2000, Donnie played a free concert in the middle of Main St, Washington, Pennsylvania as part of Washington & Jefferson College's Homecoming festivities. I had the fortune of being in the front row, battling off a complete stranger with the help of two of my friends in order to get Iris's cigarette butt (from the Salem cigarette that he smoked while playing King Cool) as a souvenir. It's been laminated as a showpiece, making me the envy of all of my fellow students.
