Staple programming in the early decades of American television, filler for those hours between the soap operas and the local evening news that are now filled with Oprah and reruns of Saved by the Bell. It featured a movie, usually quite mediocre, and, during the commercial breaks, the host would (in one variation) call a lucky viewer, who would win the jackpot, maybe after answering a "skill-testing" question. Variations still exist, most notably in radio and during sweeps.
