A professor of mathematics at Hampshire College, Kelly (as he is known) founded the Hampshire College Summer Studies in Mathematics more than twenty years ago, with his friend Don Goldberg. He and his friend Mike Spivak have a long-standing obsession with yellow pigs and the number seventeen; Kelly gives a famous lecture on Yellow Pig Day about The Mathematical and Social History of Seventeen, and is said to be working on a book of the same name.
