A delightful book in the classic hard-sf tradition. Kaye Lang is a molecular biologist who has rather unorthodox beliefs about the 95% of our DNA that we currently consider junk.

Greg Bear once again displays his admirable willingness to carry a story through to its logical end rather than seeking some cheesy copout for the main characters. I won't give away any more than this, but I highly recommend this book.

Nominated for a Hugo Award in 2000 for best novel.
