Darmstadt, Germany (pop 141 000)

A town in Germany, in the Rhein-Main region. Former Grand Ducal residency, the town evolved into a cultural hub of sorts since the beginning of the 20th century, turning into the capital of the Jugendstil which influenced Germany in pre-Bauhaus years.

Modern Darmstadt is home to the Darmstadt Tecnical University (TU-Darmstadt) and a number of large technology corporations and institutes, notably EUMETSAT, the European Space Operating Center of the European Space Agency and the Computer Graphics Division of Fraunhofer Institute (of MP3 fame).
