The final stage cell division (meiosis and mitosis). The genetic material has already divided and moved to opposite sides of the dividing cell in the earlier phases; at cytokinesis, the cytoplasm divides and cell membranes envelop the two daughter cells. After the cytokinesis step of mitosis, and cytokinesis of the final meiotic division, the two daughter cells go into interphase and carry on with their business. After cytokinesis of the first meiotic division, the two daughter cells might enter a brief interphase, but then continue with the second meiotic division.

Previous step: Telophase
Next step: Interphase
