Typically placed on the altar at Christmas to learn about people far away and out of contact. Several onions
inscribed with the names of family and friends are placed there and left undisturbed till they begin to sprout. The one which sprouts the fastest is the person in the best health.
Has been used by girls to find out who their future husband will be. How to do it: take onions and carve or write a different man's name on each one. Place them near a fire and the man whose name is on the onion that sprouts first will be the one.
Advanced practicioners will read signs in the color, smell, direction and form of the onion sprouts.
