The one of kind hat that a cowboy wears. Usually easy to spot due to the large brim, also called wings. In the old days the cowboy hat was a considerable investment for the cowboy who would sometimes spend an entire months wages on a hat.

They were designed to keep most of the cowboy from getting wet when riding his horse. This when coupled with the duster that was commonly worn, would keep the cowboy completely dry in even the most miserble downpour.
Not only to protect them from rain however, the cowboy's hat was also a sunvisor on the long open range rides.
Most importantly though was the fact that each hat was shaped according to the cowboy's personality. If you've never met a REAL cowboy, then you cannot understand, but the shape of a cowboy's hat does match his personality.
