by Steven Brust
about the best little bar
in the galaxy
. Cowboy Feng's Space Bar and Grille has an odd habit of hopping forward through time
whenever a nuclear weapon
is detonated nearby, which (oddly enough) seems to happen quite a lot. If you happen to be in the bar at the time, you'll get dragged along with it. Otherwise, you're radioactive meat stew
This is a smart, funny book that really doesn't ever seem to take itself seriously (which Brust is exceptionally good at). Unfortunately, the book has been out of print since 1990 (though you can still find used copies at Amazon.com). It's a fun read, and feels very much like that great vintage pulp sci-fi from the 60s and 70s, despite having been written more recently than that.
Update! Amazon.com is currently accepting pre-orders for a reprint edition of Cowboy Feng's Space Bar and Grille, which will be released in March of 2003.
