Electrons travel in a metal among positive ions.
One electron will attract local ions to it increasing the
local density of positive ions. This are of increased positive charge can
attract another electon to it. If this electron has the opposite spin to
the initial electron the two can form a pair, a Cooper Pair.
The propagation of areas of fluctuating charge density in the lattice
is also described as phonons.
