Born Harold Lloyd Jenkins in 1933 in Friars Point MS, his father was a riverboat pilot. Conway first recorded for Sun Records which didn't release anything he did.

But Conway soon scored a hit or two on the pop charts ("Danny Boy" #10, "It's Only Make Believe" #1, "Lonely Blue Boy" #6) in the late 1950s. He soon moved on to sing Country, where the name Twitty is enshrined for all time.

Did a great duet or two with Loretta Lynn, back in the day. Was indeed
present at the revolution via beginning as a Sun recording artiste - did
the American Bandstand wannabe-teen-idol trip and everything. Made his name'n'fame'n'fortune in Nashville (I'll bet he drank it all away, in the finest tradition), as part of the pantheon of country music stars. His "Twitty City" complex was sold to Trinity Broadcasting Network, where they have recording and TV studios, a church, and an auditorium.
