Cinta Notes is a quite small program which has a very nice and clear user interface. If you think you need something to organize your notes you should give CN a try. Here are some of the features:

  • Tags
  • On the side of the main window (where all notes are listed) you have a list of your tags.
    • click = show all notes with that tag
    • ctlr click = show all notes which include all of the marked tags.
    • shift click = show all notes which include one of these tags.
    • alt click = exclude all notes with this tag

  • Hot key for copying
  • CN let's you define a hotkey which copies a marked paragraph (e.g. in your browser). It also stores the link to the site you took the note from.

  • Some formatting
  • Cloud storage
  • On default CN stores your notes in a single file on your local hard drive in any folder you like. But you can also store them in your drop box folder if you want to. (It also works with LiveMesh)

  • Sorting by:
    • Date
    • Title
    • Link
    • Size
    • manual order

  • Portable version
  • A feature i miss
  • I back up my notes on an USB memory stick. That's why i would like to encrypt them automatically in case i loose it. Besides that I don't think services like dropbox are completely secure. Dropbox encrypts your files but the keys are stored on servers, too.

I use it because it's not overloaded with features and thousands of buttons but has nearly every feature I need.
