Chronic beryllium disease (CBD) can be caused when one is exposed to fumes, dust, powder containing beryllium and has an allergic reaction. Most people do not develop CBD, only 1-3% of those exposed. Currently, there is no way to test if a person is sensitive to beryllium before exposure occurs. CBD is primarily a lung disease that takes years to develop.
