The name of the proprietry extension to the Julian Calender of BC and AD.

Conceived in the Sixth century (AD) by a scholar by the name of Dionysius Exiguus.

BC stands for "Before Christ", whereas AD stands for the Latin words "anno Domini" ("the year of our lord").
