The dish was probably invented in Britain too, some time in the 70s.
I'm not sure if it`s an urban myth but it was supposedly created in a Birmingham restaurant.
A customer was complaining that the chicken tikka was too dry and asked if he could have some sauce to go with it. The chef, not being sure what kind of sauce would be appropriate, chucked some Campbell's chicken soup in a pot with a few chillies and a new national dish was born.
I`ve heard this story a few times now so it could well be true.
